The club competitions finals night did not disappoint, there was some exciting squash played. The main event, (Jackson Cup) was being contested between two players in good form, Matt Clarke who was looking to win the event for the third year running, and hard hitting Sam Milburn. Matt got of to a great start winning the first game 9/5, only to see Sam take the second game 9/5. It was still anyone's match to win, the third game saw both players playing some great squash. With Sam throwing everything at his opponent, including the kitchen sink, only to see Matt weather the storm and take the third game 9/5, reminiscent of "The Rumble in the Jungle" Ali vs Foreman in Zaire, oh dear, showing my age. The fourth, saw Matt take an early 5/0 lead, and although Sam fought hard to get back into the game, Matt was able to win the match 9/4.

On the other court, the doubles was contested by Phil Tapping and Mike Yung-Hok vs Bernie Heather and Rob Brockwell. Phil and Mike winning the first two games convincingly 15/10, 15/10. Bernie and Rob came out fighting in the third going 9/2 up, only to see Phil and Mike pull it back and win the match 15/12.

Next on was Alan Mann and Jason Dalton in the Handicap Plate, both players were playing off the same Handicap, so it was a straight shoot out, three games up to 15, player with the most points wins. After a shaky start, Jason beat Alan 15/12, 15/9, 15/11, points 45/32.

The Handicap final was being contested by "that man again" Matt Clarke (the Champion) and Mike Yung-Hok (the Challenger). The handicap difference meant that "the Champion" was giving "the Challenger" 9 points over 3 games, which amounted to 3 points a game up to 15. Mike was hoping that Matt may have tired himself out playing Sam, not so, when Matt won the first 15/8, clawing back 7 out of the 9 handicap points. The second game was closely contested, with Mike taking an early lead 9/3, only to see Matt pull it back and take the game 15/13. This meant that both players were on 30 points, so whoever won the last game would win the match. Matt looked to be the favourite at this point. Both players started well with nothing in it, Mike took an early lead, only to see Matt comeback. Mike finally digging deep to win the match 15/9, total points 45/39.

Jon Woosley has kindly offered to give £10 voucher to the winners of the main events including the doubles and £5 vouchers to the Plate winners.

Well done to everyone that took part, a great night was had by all.
